E. C. H. Bantel Professorship for Professional Practice
Professor Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Ren received his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati and postdoc training in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washing University Medical School. He is Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and a co-founder of Qubit Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Ren's research focuses on understanding the physical driving forces underlying biomolecular structures, dynamics, and interactions, and developing innovative physical models and computing software to study and design functional molecules and materials in silico. Ren and his team developed an advanced electrostatic model, AMOEBA, that incorporates atomic multipoles and many-body polarization effect into biomolecular simulations, and enables chemical accuracy in modeling molecular interactions. Ren's lab is a lead contributor to the molecular modeling software, Tinker and Tinker-HP, (https://github.com/TinkerTools) that is used by researchers worldwide for molecular and materials modeling and simulations.
